Special opportunity to visit the Cavell Van at the former Dover Western Docks railway station
- Port of Dover are hosting the Cavell Van and the public is welcome to view it on selected dates in November
- First time the wagon has returned to Dover since the transportation of the Unknown Warrior in 1920
- Entry is only via a valid ticket for the selected date and time. Tickets are not available at the main gate.
Tickets are now available for a special event at the Port of Dover on selected dates in November.
The Cavell Van is an iconic piece of railway and British history, and as part of the celebrations of Railway 200, it will be returning to Dover docks for the first time since it was used to transport the bodies of Edith Cavell, Charles Fryatt and the Unknown Warrior to London in 1919 and 1920.
The special event is operated by Port of Dover but made possible by Kent & East Sussex Railway (who have loaned the Cavell Van for the event), Southeastern and Network Rail.
Information:
- Tickets are free and are available for one-hour slots between 10:00-16:00 and only on the dates shown below.
- Entry is only possible with a valid ticket from the Eventbrite page. Tickets are not available on the gate.
- Free parking is available at Cruise Terminal 1.
- Please note this is a secure area and marshals will be present. Their instructions must be followed at all times to ensure the safety and security of all present.
Accessibility
It is approximately 300 metres from the parking area to the Cavell Van. Wheelchair access is possible up to the van, but is not possible into the Cavell van itself.
